Our Magazine

The Hawaii’s Lifeguard Water Safety & Rescue Magazine will be distributed through-out the state free of charge at our airports, visitor destinations, schools, surf shops, dive shops, beach locations, and our supporters state wide .
According to the State Department of Health, Hawaii’s drowning rate is more than 2x the national average. That’s just the residential drowning’s, when you include the visitor drowning’s we lead the Nation in drowning deaths. The average drowning’s per year is 64, beach and water related injuries are in the hundreds.  Statistically between visitors and residents drowning’s are split evenly at around 50%.

We are publishing our annual magazine with a desire to help educate our residents and visitors in Hawaii. The magazine contains safety tips and information for ocean, boating, surfing, diving, and snorkeling in English and Japanese. We include surf safety and etiquette along with beach maps showing hazards like rip currents, reef, shore break etc. The magazine also shares environmental information hoping to help maintain a sustainable environment in this precious paradise. Our goal is to help reduce the drownding’s and beach related injuries in Hawaii through education for our residents and our visitors.
